Galant spoke with Austin on Monday to inform him of the attack. According to a statement by the Israel Press Office (GPO), he shared with Austin evidence that Israel claims points to Hezbollah responsibility for the attack. Iran-backed Lebanese militants "categorically" denied firing a projectile at the village of Majdal Shams on Saturday, killing 12 children and wounding many more. Gallant described the attack as a "significant escalation" of the situation. "Minister Gallant expressed his gratitude to Secretary Austin and the US government for their clear stance against Hezbollah's attacks and their continued commitment to Israel's security," the GPO said. Weapons experts told CNN that the rocket that exploded on the village's soccer field was likely fired by militants. Experts analyzed footage of the explosion and its aftermath and told CNN that the explosion and damage at the site are consistent with munitions fired from Lebanon and Syria toward northern Israel and the Golan Heights. U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Sunday that "all indications" point to Hezbollah firing rockets in the occupied Golan Heights, an attack that killed 12 children.
